Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases

Myocardial disease is subdivided into: primary and secondary myocardial diseases. The primary type most common due to genetic cause, secondary myocardial diseases are mostly acquired but may be precipitated by a genetic background. In the primary myocardial disease the most common is the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is associated with a wide variety of genetic abnormalities.

Myocardial disease with a known cause is termed secondary myocardial disease.
